The Village Green

Cashiers NC
Village Green

Nestled at the crossroads of Highways 64 and 107 in Cashiers, North Carolina, the Village Green spans roughly 13.2 acres of lovingly preserved land that once faced development by a hotel chain in 1992. In a remarkable community initiative, residents Al Balestiere, Elizabeth Davenport, and John Lupton intervened by purchasing those two acres and gifting them to a nonprofit organization, birthing a vibrant civic and cultural hub at the heart of Cashiers.
Today, this nonprofit park system operates without government funding and thrives through private donations and event revenues . The meticulously designed landscape features meandering paths that wind through wetlands, forest glades, and stone walls, while botanical highlights like an acclaimed dahlia garden and azalea‑rhododendron plantings delight visitors seasonally. Sculptures by recognized artists are interspersed across the grounds, enhancing both visual appeal and community character

The Village Green

Cashiers NC Village Green is a jewel in the heart of this mountain town.

The Village Green’s charm is amplified by its diverse gathering spaces: a rustic gazebo at the crossroads, a pavilion fitted with picnic tables, the Hayes Fairchild Memorial Garden under a vine-covered arbor, and the expansive Common’s Lawn that hosts weddings, concerts, and festive celebrations. Family-friendly amenities abound, including Village Play—a playground built over five days with the efforts of 1,500 volunteers—and shelters perfect for picnics and gatherings

or over 30 years, the Village Green has been a vibrant stage for community life in Cashiers: “Groovin’ on the Green,” its beloved free summer concert series, draws locals and visitors alike to evenings of music, picnicking, and dancing beneath the stars . Throughout the year, it also hosts educational programs on nature, seasonal garden tours, Fourth of July firework displays, art festivals, holiday events, and plenty of cultural gatherings. In essence, the Village Green remains the “park for the people” that the founders envisioned—a cherished green haven at the heart of Cashiers’ mountain community.
